Hi Dion,
Thankyou for your wonderful efforts this year teaching Erin her first year of Karate. She has really enjoyed it and I can see the difference in her confidence as she is quite a shy girl. So, unfortunately we are off to Townsville in less than 2 weeks, but Erin is very keen to continue on with Karate. I only hope that we will find someone similar to yourself and the other trainers who obviously enjoy training the younger kids. Any contacts you could provide for us to get her going again would be appreciated.

I have had the pleasure of being involved within the karate club since 1996 whilst i was a student with Mike and Dion.
In 2000 my daughter Erica, whom was 6 years old begged Dion to allow her to commence training. Erica became very committed to her karate and would not only attend ALL training sessions but even continued to train at home. She showed great interest and especially took a liking to learning new kata's.
Erica competed in her first ever tournament in 2001 winning gold medal for kata. This gave Erica the desire to compete in all upcoming tournaments and she had great delight in watching her medal tally grow but also she really gained a confidence within herself and as a parent i could see what a huge impact this had on her. She also used this confidence at school which was noticed by the teachers as a real positive. Dion and Mike always taught Erica that tournaments were never about winning but about challenging yourself to reach new goals the next time.
In 2004 Erica was selected for the State Karate Team and i must say it was the proudest moment to watch my daughter be a part of this wonderful event. Although she was not successful a loss is what gave her the desire to go back the following year to then come home with a gold medal and to have the title of Australian National Champion 10/11 years kata. Erica has since gone on to win again in 2007 and hopes to win in 2009.
As a parent it has been an amazing journey watching my daughter grow into a confident young lady.
The positive influence of Mike and Dion have really helped Erica grow into the wonderful person that she is today and i would highly recommend anyone contemplating karate to give it a go. She has been taught self defence, respect, discipline, courage and above all to never give up.

I had been involved in Martial Arts back in the 80’s, so when my wife and I made the decision to enrol our 2 young daughters Stephanie and Danika at the age of 8, we did not have to look any further than Sensei Dion and Michael of Shobukan Karate.
Dion and Michael have a unique approach in teaching children and adults of all ages. Their instructional style is informative, professional, disciplined, challenging and fun.
These great qualities have enabled Stephanie and Danika to achieve great success in traditional karate techniques and in the completive karate arena with a number of Australian Gold Medals
